Why Eye Exams Are Important
Regardless of your age or physical health, it is important for everyone to have regular eye exams. Adults should have their eyes tested to keep their prescriptions current and to check for early signs of eye disease and problems that could lead to vision loss. For children, eye exams play an important role in normal development. In addition to routine comprehensive eyecare, the doctors at Kirman Eye provide emergency eye care including removal of corneal foreign bodies, treatment of corneal abrasions and conjunctivitis ("pink eye"). Treatment for a host of chronic ocular diseases such as dry eye syndrome and glaucoma is also available at Kirman Eye.

Wheelchair Accessible Exam Room
Kirman Eye is equipped with a specially designed exam room that enables full examinations to be performed while patients remain seated in their wheelchair.

Diagnostic Testing At Kirman Eye
To provide accurate vision and eye-health tests and results, the doctors at Kirman Eye use the most advanced diagnostic testing equipment in the industry. Some of the testing includes:

Optomap™ Retinal Exam

We are pleased to inform you that during your next visit to Kirman Eye, you will experience the benefits of the latest technology in eye exams – the Optomap™ Retinal Exam. The Optomap will produce the most comprehensive image of your retina, and allow us to perform a more thorough exam than was previously possible. The result is that we can better prevent or reduce vision loss in our patients with a simple, quick and patient-friendly new exam.

Heidelberg Retinal Tomography (HRT)
This is the most accurate and concise method of analyzing the optic nerve. The HRT detects subtle changes in optic nerve anatomy and the nerve fiber layer, which are often early indications of glaucoma. These changes often occur before vision loss, making the HRT an invaluable tool for the detection and treatment of glaucoma.

Dicon Automated Visual Field Testing
This equipment detects diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration, or problems such as holes or tears in the retina, which create a visual field loss. This highly sensitive instrument can detect a loss of visual field before the patient notices any changes in eyesight.

Corneal Topography
This procedure creates a surface map of the eye. It is used to aid in the fitting of contact lenses and to track certain corneal disease processes like keratoconus. Corneal Topography is also used to document a topographic map of your cornea prior to refractive surgery, such as LASIK.

Pachymetry

This instrument is used to measure corneal thickness. Corneal thickness measurements are essential for pre LASIK evaluations and accurate treatment of glaucoma.

Kirman Eye also performs visual field screening on every patient in an effort to detect ocular pathology such as glaucoma, retinal detachment and macular degeneration. Other tests that may be administered, include:

Tonometry checks the pressure found in the eye.

Gonioscopy evaluates the fluid drainage system of the eye.

Biomicroscopy evaluates the surface of the eye in great detail.

Color Vision Testing looks for indication of optic nerve pathology.

Stereopsis Testing reveals the patient’s ability to see “3-D” images. It also examines the patient's

ability to use their eyes together.
